Well, thats pretty much the Automania graphics wrapped up aside from Wally, which I’m hanging on for someone to send me a rip of, as to be honest I’m terminally lazy in that respect.

Sent the main sheets over to Gordon last night and he seemed pretty pleased with them, I’ll send him the enemy sprites later on (even though he blatantly outed me on the RR forum for having to be in the vague vicinity of a Take That gig).

All in all, I quite enjoyed the brief sojourn back into doodling, but its onwards and upwards with the competition organising for a while now - both my fellow Admin STomps and myself have to sort out how the competition pages are going to look (vaguely as we’re still awaiting confirmation on a couple of sponsors who can’t confirm their exact contributions just yet - but Caff is handling that element), a good 80% of the rules are done, dusted, signed and sealed with hopefully, the last 20% to come over the next week or so with a little assistance from a friend - then its just down to the tidying up on the webside and who knows, with a bit of luck - we may even have the new RR site template ready by competition launch, although I wouldn’t hold my breath knowing how busy we’re going to be in the run up.

Its weird this year as I’m actually really looking forward to seeing what people come up with. Veteran of 2 major competitions and 1 for various reasons I can’t go into that we pretend didn’t happen - and after the last one, I’d say being jaded by the whole thing would be a slight understatement. I guess it helps this time that I don’t feel like I’m battling through on my own with having able support from Caff, STomps and the RR moderator team. Throw in the fact that this time round we’ve got 100% complete control of the rules, the prize distribution and no interference whatsoever from anyone outside of the inner circle, add a dash of motivation from the eager postings on the Retro Remakes forums and I suppose there’s no way that I couldn’t actually be looking forward to it.

We’ve learnt a lot of lessons as a team from the past 4 competitions, some good, some bad, some foolish and rather than retread the same ground again, we’ve consolidated all the good things (or at least, I believe that we have) into this years to hopefully come up with a formula whereby more people can get rewarded for their hard work and also, we get to see some really excellent remakes being created as a result.

The only downside is the rules read like a novel due to an enormous amount of clarifications we’ve been forced to put in after the vast amount of people who have tried to pick holes in the rules in the past. Luckily, the main rules and the spirit of the competition itself can be summed up very very easily in only a few words… but I’m not at liberty to say what those words are yet.
Should be a fun time, and I hope to see as many people as possible join in the fun.
