Treble the fun…
Ah, so little time to work on VI the past few days with the competition looming ever closer and as usual, loads of last minute tweaks to go through - but that doesn’t mean the world stops! Oh no.
The old sound .dll I was using for the VI music had the unfortunate byproduct of a quite serious memory leak - why choose that one when there’s at least 2 other great .dll’s for intergrating either FMOD or bass into GM? Well, it was a size issue mainly.
Along comes Mr Smayds (always keep a delphi coder handy, chaps!) with a stripped down, bare basics .dll thats tailored to just the stuff I need for VI called “Treble” to make me incredibly happy. Gave it a test run through last night and it works like a dream so, its time to get the music back in and farm the sound effects off to external files also.
Faster loading times? Oh yes.
In other news, been playing the latest Clash N Slash game - Worlds Away after an impulse purchase. A bit more frantic than the original release, yet still strangely calming. Perhaps the only “casual” shooter I’ve really been bothered with for more than 5 seconds. Fairly good fun indeed.
Before I toddle off for a bit, I’d like to thank the2bears for the mention in his blog last week. I’ve been following his blog for quite a while now and its always an enjoyable and informative read - damn near essential for shmup fans too.
Oh, and in case you’ve not noticed - there’s an interview with ickle me in Issue 25 of RetroGamer magazine about the RR Competition ![]()
Hallelujah
Is there a more mournfully beautiful song than this?
Just sitting here listening to a live bootleg of Cohen, and even treading that fine line that could so easily slip into Vegas lounge music - its still the most wonderful song ever.
I know the Buckley cover gets a lot of loving, and for good reason - it *is* a damn fine cover version, spine tinglingly so - but give me Leonards patented Voice Of Treacle anyday. When the choir bursts in for the chorus… just … wow ![]()
More Bullet Candy
Got a nice and quite unexpected update to the previously mentioned Bullet Candy in the mail last night, a few tweaks and the addition of an online high score table.
Dangnammit, why? I’m sure I had a million other things to be doing in the early hours of the morning, but oh no - the temptation was too great. I’d managed to squeak through to level 43/44 yesterday - thats 6 away from the finishing post… so, with a bit of a push in the form of an online scoreboard… it’d be rude not to, right?
2 hours later, much cursing and a telling off for not bringing the brews in from the kitchen - over 50 lives gained throughout play - a hefty amount of them stolen from me in the last two levels and its done… disappointed that the game *just ends* instead of looping, but hey - I’ve got Minter Mode to play with now, and someone else has a relatively high score to kick off the top spot… and thats what its all about.
I can’t see myself sitting at the top spot for long though, if I hadn’t spazzed away my multiplier on a couple of levels I could have done a whole lot better…
…there’s always tomorrow ![]()
