…could you possibly make a more frustrating piece of shit than Yoshi’s Island DS? Dear God, it makes Rick Dangerous seem like an enticing proposition, it really does…

Isn’t it a port of the SNES version?
Nah, its a new game that takes everything that was great about the SNES version and adds more, more, more…and manages to make a complete fuck up of it in the process.
By the time I hit World 3 I nearly slung the DS through the window - the game is that frustratingly badly designed.
Its really sad that instead of wanting to run around and savour each level I just want to get the heck off it as fast as possible. If I come across one more item/platform/enemy hidden between the dual screens I think I’m going to scream.
And really, the level design is completely Rick Dangerous at times.
Man, I was *so* looking forward to this as well.
oh, doh! I’ve only heard good things about this and am planning to buy it soon (probably still will…have to really :P).. you’re the first person i’ve seen say it’s no good.
i like New SMB and Super Princess Peach, but to me, neither of them are *awesome platformers*.. I was hoping Yoshi DS would be - Yoshi’s Island has always been my favourite mario game.
Reading about the whole different-babies-give-you-different-powerups thing made me cringe a bit, and….. oh well. I’ll wait till I get it and see what I reckon, I guess.
(hmm…i loved Rick Dangerous. I wonder what that says about me?)
This is bad news… I’ve been looking forward to this one as well for quite awhile. But… got to get it anyway, my son’s been yammering for it and it’s on sale (already?) here for $24 which is not bad.

There was some interesting comments on RLLMUK about it, seems pretty much split down the middle on folks who adore it or find it lacking - so sounds like a definite your mileage may vary job.

The main bugbear for me is the dual screen usage - it probably seemed a really smart idea to have the gap between screens as usable space - but when the designers are intent on putting things in the gap so that even the up/down shifting makes it awkward to time, its incredibly frustrating dying because of it.
Its not *too* bad for the most part, but when you get to the vertically scrolling levels like the waterfall section and you’re really heading into leap of faith territory.
I guess I just don’t have the patience for that anymore.
