Oooh, an easy one. I don’t have to play Gibbage right now because I’ve played it a fair bit this year already, and its rather nifty. So there.

In all likelihood, I think Gibbage has already passed the 5 minute test

Gumboy Crazy Adventures

Man, this was just painful from the off - the options screen opened on my secondary monitor, I click play and it tells me the game needs the OpenAL sound driver which its now going to proceed to install and when I finally get into the game I’m blasted by pad sound hell for my sins and forced to endure a soulless take on Loco Roco that seems to absolutely love fucking my eyes up by running about as smoothly as sandpaper being shoved up your behind. Cheers for that.

Kingdom Elemental

Fuck knows, the demo was due out 2 days ago according to the website. Ah well.

Kudos

Wahey, within 5 minutes I had a miserable road sweeper who had just started to learn how to sing. Could I do justice to Kudos in a 5 minute window? Nah, I don’t think I could.

Could I play Kudos for more than the five minutes? Hmmm, to be honest I’m not sure. Its interesting but not really my thang. At least its different - we like different.

Masters Of Defence

Oh dear, who forgot to put a game in? Not only is this pretty darn ugly to look at - there really isn’t any sort of game at all to speak of. Most depressing.

5 minutes spent building a couple of towers and passively shooting a couple of ugly things that wandered past. I upgraded a tower as well. That was fun.

Minions Of Mirth

You see, I’m sure this is absolutely lovely but at 245 meg, I don’t think I’ll bother.

Motorama

Oooh, ATV Simulator meets Kickstart 2 kinda thing. Thats more like it. Aside from wondering why for the first few attempts my bike was flipping over automatically (that’ll be because it defaulted to my joypad which was tucked down the back of the computer somewhere ) this has been the most pleasant surprise from this batch. I’ve always had a thing for Kickstart 2 so this gets the thumbs up here.

Mr Smoozles Goes Nutso

What an absolutely fantastic name for a boring tedious pile of pants. I propose the game gets its name changed to “Mr Smoozles Ambles Around A Maze Aimlessly”. Nice graphics, really, really bad game.

Naked War

Do I really need to tell you that this is far and away one of the best games of 2006 - not just one of the best Indie games…just one of the best games released?

5 minute gaming chunks of sheer loveliness.

Neon Wars

The biggest surprise of the year for me. I dreaded the thought of a game that wrestles the shooting control away from you, but I misjudged Neon Wars greatly and it turned into a lovely game by the time it was released. Also features one of the best special weapons in a 360 degree shooter I’ve seen. Very nice.
