Mr Robot

Well, that saved me a few quid. Huge thanks to the fortuity that shone down upon me from above leading me to winning first prize in the Retro247 competition I’ve finally managed to avoid the torture of the monthly “hovering over the buy button despite being brassick” over at Moonpod and bagged myself a freebie of Mr Robot.
Had a play with the demo when it was released and found it an impressive piece of work, but with it not being a dip in and out of easily kinda game, I’d put off picking it up before now - given I’ve got more things to do than I have time to right now.
Thats one dilemma solved though, a few days ago a lovely mail from Moonpod dropped in my inbox with an unlock code for the game giving me the chance to have a play through unrestricted.
I’m going to save my review for Rodentia I think, but I’d just like to use this post to give two thumbs up to Retro247 for running the compo in the first place (and for earning PeeJay a copy of Gibbage also) and Moonpod for their prompt and polite handling of the prize.
Cheers chaps!
Title Screen Woes and Stuff…

Ah, the joys of being back on the internet. Due to Mrs Bob going away for a few days last week and me having a bit of peace and quiet about the house (and a suprising absence of internet, thanks Virgin!) managed to get a fair bit of work done on G-Force. However, as I mentioned in my comments section in the last post about the game I’m still struggling to get this title screen to run ok.
And I’m completely befuddled by it, so I think its back to the drawing board. I can type the code into a seperate file, and it works. I can merge it in with other files and it works, yet with G-Force, it just plain refuses. So I guess I’m going to have to hang up my coat on that one and take a slightly different approach.
Quite a few visual changes been made to the latest version, more background detail, screen rumble and some other bits and bobs. Those who know where to find it can feel free to take a gander at a 20 level demo dated as per usual so you’ll know which one it is. The rest, well, hang fire a bit and you can have the lot soon enough!
Its so close now, I can feel it in my wee. Or maybe thats just my usual bladder problems - I don’t know.
Oh, and for those that may have missed it, you can find a video of it in non stretchyvision on youtube.
Sound Effects

One thing I’m sure folks have noticed whilst trawling the web for free to use sounds in games is, really, there’s not actually that many usable ones out there. Certainly, very little in the way of game related ones.
For my own games, I spend far too much time stressing over every element, and I figure that sound is one of the most important aspects for any game - the wrong sound effects in the wrong place can have an incredibly jarring effect on the player. And so, I spend a good proportion of the time for each game I write writing new sound effects for it. Tunewise, I’m very lucky - if I can’t come up with a suitable tune or piece of music that fits, I can always call on my good friend Gordon to fill in the blanks (I still love the music he did for Beast 3, probably my favourite part of the game) so I never really have to worry too much about that aspect.
Anyway, to help at least populate the net with a few different sound effects to the ones currently available, I’ve ragged out all the sound effects used in G-Force, Beast 2 & 3 and what would have been the sound effects for Vector Infector had the game not gone tits. I’m not sure how useful they’ll be to folks given each sound is tailored to a specific event in a game, but they’re out there now and free to use.
