One thing I’m sure folks have noticed whilst trawling the web for free to use sounds in games is, really, there’s not actually that many usable ones out there. Certainly, very little in the way of game related ones.
For my own games, I spend far too much time stressing over every element, and I figure that sound is one of the most important aspects for any game - the wrong sound effects in the wrong place can have an incredibly jarring effect on the player. And so, I spend a good proportion of the time for each game I write writing new sound effects for it. Tunewise, I’m very lucky - if I can’t come up with a suitable tune or piece of music that fits, I can always call on my good friend Gordon to fill in the blanks (I still love the music he did for Beast 3, probably my favourite part of the game) so I never really have to worry too much about that aspect.
Anyway, to help at least populate the net with a few different sound effects to the ones currently available, I’ve ragged out all the sound effects used in G-Force, Beast 2 & 3 and what would have been the sound effects for Vector Infector had the game not gone tits. I’m not sure how useful they’ll be to folks given each sound is tailored to a specific event in a game, but they’re out there now and free to use.

Hurrah!!
Thanks a lot. I always have problems getting good sounds.
Thanks for putting up these sound effects. Now the biggie question is : what do you use to make these with? I’m always looking for interesting tools to play with ( besides my own that is )
Usually - FLStudio, a ruck of VST’s and far too much time spent tweaking tiny details to get what I want.
Quadrasid makes a nice base for old school sounds - its not exactly bargain bucket but there’s nary a better SID emulator I don’t think. NES stuff, Peach is ace albeit sample based.
The rest of it comes from a huge bank of VST’s, which I just tend to sit down, throw one open and twiddle till I get the sound I’m after. I’ve got a whole ruck of stuff on a disk somewhere that I could throw up but I’m convinced its either been caught in the Drawer of Doom or filed in one of the boxes in the hall we’ve packed up.
Either way, I’ll try and keep slinging these out on a reasonably irregular basis so that there’s more sounds out there.
Thanks for the info as your sounds are some of the best! ( the GForce effects being my favs ) I didn’t realize that the old Fruity Loops had transmorgrified into FLStudio. I’m convinced I’ve been hearing alot of Vocoder effects in your games too.
Cheers for these: will be interesting. I tend to spend ages twiddling with SFX as well as I agree that they are a hugely important aspect. If I was making money from remakes, I`d be buying some of the fx from sounddogs, as their library is huge.
