Fundraising for SpecialEffect

[I'll be doing the full announcement for this over at RR tonight, but in the meantime here's what I posted over on Rodent about it]

I’m afraid you won’t get to see me leap out of a plane, grow any further facial hair (I’ve got no room for it anyway - I’m 99% hair as it is…) or anything quite so exciting, but we’re doing a little fundraiser for SpecialEffect, “a charity dedicated to helping ALL young people with disabilities to enjoy computer games”. We’re already hoping to have some games specifically designed for their Games For Helen project through a competition we’re running over at RR but as keeping SpecialEffect running, training folks up and picking up computer gear isn’t a cheap do - we’re also hoping that we can raise a few squid to throw their way to help ease the load (boom tish!) a bit.

It’s odd to think how much we gamers take for granted and contrary to certain parts of the media who’d have you believe otherwise, games can make a massive difference to the quality of life that kids lead. So, I’ve set up a JustGiving page here: http://www.justgiving.com/retroremakes and if anyone can afford to throw in a couple of quid - I know times are tight, it’s nearly Christmas etc… and I honestly don’t expect folks to have a few quid to throw in, but y’know, if you do - we’re aiming to get at least 500 quid to them over the course of the next twelve months so any and all contributions to the fund are more than welcome. And yes, I promise that if we do get over £500 I will film myself running around the garden pretending to be a monkey swimming in a pool of bananas. If nothing else, it’ll give me the motivation to mow the lawn first…

(At the time of posting this we’re at a massive £120 already, a major MAJOR thank you to everyone who’s donated so far. Lets keep ‘em coming and see if we can not just reach the £500 barrier but smash it to pieces.)
