Games From The Future

25 Jan

Or, to be more precise, the retro-future. Ooh, get me.

The eighties were a weird time. I lived in what could politely be described as an industrial town on the verge of ruin. Looking back, it’s odd to note that as I grew up, instead of watching a town grow and flourish I watched it’s slide into the grip of high unemployment and all the trappings of society that follow on. Now, I’m sure I’m not unique in this regard – but rather than go off on one of my unfortunate Anti-Thatcher rants (it’s a bit like tourettes, I just can’t help it at times) I want to talk about something entirely different. I used to gorge myself on books, lots and lots of books – and some of my favourite reads were glances into the near future. Well, what some random author would consider to be the near future anyway.

DIY SY!NSO!

24 Jan

For some ill apparant reason, I’ve decided to release all the media that I used in SY!NSO! bar the music tracks (which I don’t have permission to distribute or offer up for anyone elses use I’m afraid). Included in the zip file of doom is all the graphics I drew for the game – more eagle eyed viewers will be aware that a large proportion of them may just have been seen before in the sadly aborted George’s Squizzy Griffin platform game – and all the sound effects. Waste not, want not though my friends.

Providing that none of the media is for use in a commercial project then folks are free to do as they please with it. Use them to create your own SY!NSO! tribute game, use them to create a game in an entirely different genre, use them as placeholder graphics until someone else toddles along. I really don’t mind. If you’re planning on using them in a commercial capacity (ie – you’re totally and utterly insane) then just drop me a line via the power of email (it’s in the license readme file, folks) and we’ll talk.

World Domination Plan: Stage 1

24 Jan

Create new blog space to replace old. Huzzah. We’re back up and running-ish, kinda, sort of… okay, I’ve upped a WordPress installation. It’s a start.

I’m going to archive off the old blog so that it’ll still be viewable, but I do believe I’m quite enjoying the idea of starting from scratch again. Just think… all this blank space and currently so few words to fill them. The domination of the known universe begins here…
