Ah, been a while again since I did a little link-me-do trawl of the internet, so I guess it’s time to drop a few links in the pot and get stirring:
Casual Insider: Why Popcap could do better…
Where’s facepalm.gif when you need it? Mental article but worth a punt for the funnies alone.
“Their last game (Bejewelled Twist) was a clone of the first game that made them popular, and it didn’t include any new, never before seen, gameplay mechanics even though PopCap promised that the game would be revolutionary. It was also space themed: the worst selling theme statistically. Someone at PopCap needs a serious talking to.”
I’m sure inbetween toasting their massive sales and congratulating each other on the frankly rather ingenious design work gone into Bejewelled Twist, they’ll be waiting for a stern talking to. Then spending their wads of money on flying cars or something.
There’s many a reason, I’m sure, for throwing rocks at Popcap. None less than the whole Zuma thing. None of them are in this article, instead it’s quite the bizarre drivelling that doesn’t seem to tally much with the reality of either the market or what Popcap do. Standard internet day, then.
EDIT: Looks like this fella has been removed, luckily I took a snapshot care of google cache.
The IGF nominee and how many years in the making game now in shiny video footage. Be sure to watch the lighting test vid to see where it’s heading right now and follow the dev updates on Twitter for the down and dirty on its creation. Talking of Twitter, don’t forget that the RR team are now on Twitter too.
GameSetWatch: Denki on creating games for no power systems.
FWIW, I got 8/10 on the Denki Test once. Not that I wanted the job, I was just curious. Anyway, excellent write up on creating games for Sky boxes and other such devices. Smart, smart stuff.
Nice overview of the benefits of adding subtitles to games. If someone can send pages 2 & 3 to Capcom, it’d be much appreciated, ta. Worth checking out the stuff that Reid Kimball does for [CC] too. In this day and age this stuff should be a no brainer inclusion.
Fidgit: Tom Chick on Killzone 2
Awesome review followed by when fanboys attack. The rapid descent into a comments section that makes GameFAQ stuff seem tame only adds to the hilarity of a brilliantly written slating of a game.
“It’s one of the basic tenets of train level design: make the train drive past cool stuff. But this train simply whizzed along through concrete walls for twenty minutes.”
And in further reviewing adventures, KG has just covered F.E.A.R 2 on Eurogamer and confirmed my worst suspicions, with occasional predictable results in the comments segment too.
“Jeez, did the reviewer get kicked in the nuts by his girlfriend while opening a letter from his landlord saying he’s getting evicted, just before he wrote the review? Maybe you shouldn’t write reviews until you’ve been out for a few pints, won money at the local casino and got the number of the hottest chic in the nightclub. 5/10 lol.”
Perhaps you shouldn’t write comments until you’ve had a long hard think, Mr Polaris.
Right, that’s me done for now. Back to the usual array of post hack tech support, web fiddling and keyboard headbutting that is my life at the moment.
