I hope many indie developers read your warnings about torrents. The damage they can do is incalculable.

For just US$99 (or $149 for the CDROM version),
I offer a waterproofing service for indie developers.

Using my DRM (drenching reduction mechanism) I can prevent the infection of the torrent worm.

This will reduce the chances of your Indie title being infected by the PiratebayWin32 virus, which replicates at an astonishing rate and more worringly, REMOVES Egyptian/Mayan theming from Match 3 titles.

Sound advice indeed. However you have missed the excellent opportunity torrents provide the indie developer. First, clone some banal game. Second, ensure your game is available for torrent download. Third, have the ISPs contact their customers with a letter from your company threatening to take them to court for illegal uploading of your game.

It is vital you sue for uploading. An illegal download is a single lost sale, but uploading costs you a conservative 4,000 sales. Sue them for 4000x19.99 plus costs, but offer an out of court settlement of 39.99. Even if these people have never heard of your game they will gladly pay this. As further incentive also mention you know what porn they have been downloading.

A quick look at the maths shows how this can't fail; 1.6 BILLION people on the internet, if even just half of these settle out of court you are making profit.

Of course it's not quite as easy as I make it sound. You will of course need a good lawyer, and while my degree is not in law, I have watched every Rumpole and will provide my services for a token retainer.
