In Praise Of Hard Games (via RPS)

Another day, another Leigh Alexander piece where once again she manages to muddle accessibility and difficulty levels together to frustrating effect. As I said in my talk on Friday, they’re not necessarily the same issue. You can have accessible and still have a hard game, that’s sorta the point and it pains me that the two things are constantly confused as if they’re one.

Scamville (via Robin Clarke)

I’ll admit, I don’t really understand the draw of these social gaming things in the first place and on those rare occasions I bother to log into my Facebook account I want to cry out “I don’t give a fuck if you’ve found a black sheep, you bunch of cunts” but instead I tend to mutter and mumble under my breath about the spam updates and return to swearing in the more comfortable confines of Twitter where I can run 3376m before hitting a wall or something. Anyway! Good piece over at Techcrunch on the economics and scammery involved. And yes, scammery is now a word.

Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure – Daily Rodent

Yup, that about nails it.

Indievision

On the back of Langdell-gate and the great work that Chaos Edge pulled off, Indievision “acts as an international voice for the small developer – we are here to help promote the interests of indie development studios, and to provide information, advice & contacts essential for running a successful studio”. It’s off to a cracking start already and there’s already a wealth of knowledgeable folks signed on the virtual dotted line, articles and interviews are already trickling in including one with the ever wonderful Alex May. Unrelated, really, but I wanted to mention this.

Game Pitching – British Indie

If that’s your bag.

Indie Bingo Halloween Special

I love Indie Bingo. It’s lovely. “Non-linear meaning delivery service through the meaning network. Meaning.”
