Where to start game creation?
I'm a student interested in making games, but I'm pretty much lost in where to begin. I've been poking my nose around, and I must admit that I've seen my share of bickering about languages. Been told to use unity, have heard of using C++, have tried and become bored of Game maker, is getting told to begin at Javascript, considering searching C#, but now I'm pretty much sitting in a corner moping about flash not behaving as I want it to. And this is why I'm wondering if there really is a place to start. The impression I've got is that everybody pretty much thought "oh, hardship" and moved along, but I just feel that hardship and motivation are some of the largest opposite polarities that I can find. So: "Do you have an idea as of where to start, and where to find the motivation to continue".

Really really good. Interesting and insightful. I've certainly been guilty of some of the stuff you mention. This is why I hang around here...that and the promise of women and beer. What ever happened with that?

Rich, ta :D

Perrin, yeah - I think that'd be brilliant.

Stuff like Flashdojo and LearnCocos2d are absolutely fantastic and definitely heading in the right direction but something that demystifies things a bit in a more general sense, something absolutely more accessible and put down in non-coder terms would be wondrous.

Most resource sites have another agenda to push, be it selling you x tool or y tutorial video or whatever and that's great for traffic or those already in the know to a degree - there's nothing of note or worth like you describe.

Total thumbs up vote from me if you punt ahead with it. I know when I was starting out, I'd have loved something like that.

I and I know a few other indies have been thinking along these lines too of late.

I'm actually in the process of putting together a simple how to make games guide aimed at letting outsiders know that if they find a tool to fit them they can make games, and don't have to be scared away.

Just want it to be lots of helpful advice and tips for an absolute beginner telling, showing them their options rather than trying to rail road them down one path.
