G-Force Retro Remake

G Force

Sometimes 3d isn’t always the best.

G-Force takes the frenetic action of Dave Theurer’s classic vector shooter Tempest and transposes it into two dimensions.

Described by PC Zone as “…a brilliant remake of the classic blaster”, “sickeningly difficult” and containing “Jeff Minter-esque crude humour”, G-Force is a game to melt the eyeballs, keep the trigger finger twitching and to keep you coming back for more.

“The screen is quite ablaze with wonderfully liquid explosions and surreal, text based effects” according to the RetroGamer magazine review, “fast dynamic levels keep the intense gameplay white hot”, “G-Force takes a wealth of old material and combines it with the popularity of modern arcade traits to give us a fresh and fun packed few minutes of pure, eye-straining escapism”.

A rather nice and appreciated 83% from RetroGamer magazine for a game that’s not even complete yet.

To try 20 levels of the G-Force experience, why not treat yourself to the work in progress version currently available to download?

G-Force works fine under XP and Vista these days, so you should be alright providing you have one of those fine OS running on your computer. There’s a possibility down the line of a Mac version, but given it’s taken a year or so to get this far with G-Force, I wouldn’t hold your horses.

Download the game, unzip it to it’s own directory. Click the .exe, wait a few moments for the thing to load and off you trot.

G-Force is also featured on The Great Games Experiment, along with more screenshots, videos and information than you could ever need. Feel free to nip along, have a browse and if you’d be so kind - your rating would be welcome too.

G-Force is controllable via the keyboard or a PC compatible gamepad.

Left/Right - Cursor Keys or Stick 1 Left/Right
Fire - Z or Y or Button 1
Superzapper - X or Button 2

The Superzapper can only be fired once per web. At the end of every web, the Superzapper is recharged.

G-Force Old Versions (not Vista compatible unless stated) - files are for historical purposes and to show the development cycle of G-Force and its evolution over the development period. I’m not entirely sure why anyone would want to bother with them, but I guess if you’re after a step by step insight into how G-Force has evolved (ergo - you’re completely off your box insane) then here are a fair few of the builds. There’s quite a few missing towards the latter days as I’ve yet to upload any interim builds and I’m not sure how many I still have, but I’ll try and fill in as many gaps as possible over time.
