Fuck Space

Fuck Space

Both Bill and Tim have already amply covered Cactus’ Fuck Space in recent days, and really, given the quality of the games stylings it’d be rude for me to not join the party.

Aside from having one of the best names for a game ever, Fuck Space has some beautifully retro styled graphics with all the space craft and nasties constructed out of pixel blocks - almost LED style, and their chunky simplicity makes them, whilst certainly not unique - but definitely in a league of their own.

And the plot? Did I mention the plot? One of the things I always used to find amusing about 8 bit games was reading some of the plots that got cemented into some of the budget titles (one of my favourites being the Chronos instructions with its tales of intergalactic derring do before informing you that none of that has absolutely anything to do with the game, words to the effect of “just shoot stuff” followed).

Anyway, I digress slightly - the plot is wonderfully shoehorned in, because lets face it - its a mental shooter and you don’t really need a plot.

You do?

Ok, here we go then - don’t say I didn’t warn you.

You were on your honeymoon trip with your hot new wife, when a meteor struck her dead. Enraged by sorrow you turn your car into a space ship and venture into space to get revenge on everything you can find.

Inspired!

Whilst the game is a little rough in the balance department - occasionally there can be a hefty gap between new waves if you fail to clear the last one in time and the boss firepower falls firmly in the “you bastard!” camp but all told, its a lovely experimental little game with its own style and not too tough as to make you want to chew someones face off.

More like this please…

I quite like the new blog design, but it’s all a little grey for me. Any chance of some colour?
